The Motion detection feature in regular cameras is in fact triggered by “Pixelation change” on the cameras view, and since most amateur grade cameras nowadays are 1080 (2mp) of resolution, that means that when some of the 2 MILLION pixels on the image change, this will trigger the alert.

Here are just some of the things which could trigger a notification on a regular camera:
